Do It Yourself (DIY) Waterslide

We all know summer is hot. But what if you don’t have a fun way to cool off?

A simple fix to that is a do it yourself (DYI) waterslide. I have actually used the DIY waterslide before. When I was younger, I attended a karate camp. During camp, my Sensei went out to the back of the karate school and created a quick, easy waterslide for all of the camp kids to use during break.

The DIY waterslide is very simple. All you need is a basic tarp, cheap shampoo or soap (the kind that does not burn your eyes) and water. Lay the tarp evenly on the ground or on a slight hill, make sure there are no rocks or sharp objects under the tarp which could cause injury. Cover the tarp with the shampoo or soap, spray water all over the tarp and your DYI waterslide is ready for sliding! Rewet the slide as needed. You can optionally place an inflatable pool or cushion at the end of your slide to make a safer and a more comfortable stop.

Even though it is summer time and you want to have fun, remember……safety first. Kids, make sure you have your parent’s permission to make the slide and do not slide more than one person at a time to avoid a collision. Parents, never leave kids unattended! A DYI waterslide can be a safe, inexpensive and enjoyable way to have fun in the sun!
